CHIA SEEDS
Hardly anyone knows it, but Chia Seeds
are truly a superfood. Besides providing energy and strength, they are
a calorie-cutter and an incredible source
of nutrients, protein and oil. One tablespoon of chia
seed is enough to supply a person with 24 hours worth of energy.
According to New York Times health columnist Jane E. Brody,
even overweight patients with type II diabetes as well as those
with low blood sugar can be helped by this food.
Chia seeds are one of nature’s perfect foods and they are easily
digested by the human body. Chia
seed helps those trying to lose weight, because in water or in stomach
digestive juices, it swells from seven to nine times its original weight,
giving a feeling of fullness.
Chia gel is a
great food extender, calorie-cutter and nutrient enricher.
Added to mayonnaise in an equal amount, chia gel doubles its volume
without changing its taste. Mixed with a spread such as butter, it slashes
calories and the amount of saturated fat.
Chia seed, a
muscle and tissue builder and an energizer of endurance, contributes
to a healthy digestion.
Chia, as an ingredient, is a dieter’s dream food. There are limitless
ways to incorporate the Chia seed into your diet.
Take 1-4 tablespoons daily. Chia seeds may be consumed raw, sprouted,
ground, cooked, or as a gel. Use creatively in smoothies, salads, soups,
or when baking (e.g., in toppings, fillings, or crusts). To prepare
chia gel, whisk 1/3 cup chia seeds in 2 cups water. Let stand for 3
minutes and whisk again. Chia gel keeps for up to 2 weeks when refrigerated.
