BITTER MELON
Bitter Melon has a long history in
the Amazon for its blood-sugar regulating
properties.
It is primarily used for the management of non-insulin dependent diabetics.
In scientific research, at least three different groups of constituents
found in all parts of bitter melon have demonstrated hypoglycaemic properties
plus other potentially beneficial actions against diabetes mellitus.
The hypoglycaemic effect is more pronounced in the fruit of bitter melon.
Over 100 studies have shown the blood sugar lowering effect of this
bitter fruit. It has also proven the ability to enhance cells’
uptake of glucose to promote insulin release and to potentiate the effect
of insulin.
In Ayurvedic medicine, bitter melon is popularly considered a “plant-insulin”
Clinical studies have demonstrated low toxicity of all parts of bitter
